In the Beginning
I grew up in Campbell California which later became part of what's now known as Silicone Valley, but my early years were spent in the orchards and fields of my family's farm. My first exposure to the computer technology world came in the form of a Compaq "luggable" in 1982. I was so fascinated and frustrated, all at the same time with my new machine because I couldn't get it to do much so I spent every penny I could afford on programming books which were all based on "Interrupted Basic" code.
Since my computer had an 8088 processor, 128k memory and only one 160k 5-1/4 drive, space was at a premium. I read every thing I could find on database development and in a short time, I had developed a scheduling program for a local delivery service who became my first client but was very reluctant to my new idea of running their business on a software program. From there I went on to develop a tracking system for one of the doctors in the area which I marketed to several others and then integrated them with the hospital they used. Due to the lack of any Internet (as we know it now) I actually created a physical intranet... I had the delivery service that was using my first scheduling program pick up the data from the doctors and take it to the hospital. Wow, what I would not have done for FTP services back then!
As memory and disk space grew, so did my programming skills. I changed computer languages several times over the years, Cobalt, Fortran, Visual Basic, Informix, Assembly, but ended up writing mainly in "C" and "C++". I continued to write and develop mostly database backed vertical market applications and intranet applications which utilized a Novel server, along with marketing of my previously completed programming packages. I founded Software Source Inc who grew to be the 3rd largest software distributing company in California and Alpha-Beta Systems, a design company. Understand that this was when everything run under some form of DOS, graphics was not really used; it was all basically just database retrieval and text screens. Then in 1994 came Windows, a mouse, the Internet and my world suddenly changed again. I switched my programming focus from a standalone program to the technology of providing information for website development. I incorporated PHP, Java, MySQL, Open GL, CSS and Flash into my site development . I have been actively involved in web design from the early years but I must say, I never dreamed of the impact websites now have on our purchase making decisions.
Upon my retirement in 2003, I missed the developing challenges and rewards of site development so that's when I formed 123sitecreators.com. I wanted to create an separate entity that gave personal attention to every client, possessed the programming knowledge and expertise to build quality websites for the anyone at an affordable price.
